Why is Kirsti not afraid of the soldiers?

Kirsti is not of the afraid of the soldiers because she didn't care what the soldiers were doing and she was stubborn.



How would you have felt if you had been Annemarie when the soldiers spoke to her? Why?


I would have felt scared and confused because I would not have known who they were and why they were there.


Chapter 2



Do you think King Christian did the right thing when he surrendered to the
Nazis?Why? Would you be willing to die to protect the leader of your country? Why?


I think King Christian did the right thing by surrendering to the Nazis because the Nazi army is big and the King Christian's army is small. Yes because if no one protects our leader it would threatened our country.


What happened to Annemarie's older sister Lise?

Lise was hit by a car.




How has Annemarie's family changed after the death of Lise?

Annemarie's family changed because after Lise's death they never wanted to talk and think about her because that would make them sad.

Chapter 4



What are the answers to the questions that are the titles of the first three chapters?


The answer to the first chapter is that two German soldiers were at the corner of the street and Annemarie and Ellen were racing for thier school race and the soldiers told them to stop and the soldiers asked Annemarie and Ellen why they were running. The answer to the second chapter is the king of Denmark that rides past. The answer to the third chapter is that Mrs. Hirsch got taken away by the German soldiers because she was Jewish.

The title of this chapter is "It Will Be a Long Night." Why was it a long night?


It was going to be a long night because the German soldiers were going to come to Annemarie's house.
Why does Ellen spend the night with Annemarie?


So that the German soldiers can't take Ellen away.

Why do the soldiers come to the Johansen’s apartment?


To find Ellen because the Johansen family is friends with the Rose family.

For what reason is Uncle Henrik’s home a good place to take a Jewish refugee?
It is a good place to go because it is out in a woods and at the Johansen's apartment the German soldiers are going to get suspicious.

In the casket was coats and blankets for the Jewish people.

So that the baby will stop crying.

One possible theme for this novel is that it is easier for people to be brave if they do not know everything. Use an incident that happened in this novel to prove this.

Why does Annemarie volunteer to take the packet to Uncle Henrik?

Annemarie volunteered to deliver the packet to Uncle Henrik because her mom had a broken ankle.

Why doesn’t Mama tell Annemarie what is in the basket?

She didn't tell Annemarie because Annemarie's mom did not want Annemarie to worry about what is in the packet but instead worried more about getting the packet to Uncle Henrik.

Kirsti is the Red Riding Hood and the soldiers are the wolf.
